چکیده

Motivated by problems of pattern statistics, we study the limit distribution of the random variable counting the number of occurrences of the symbol a in a word of length n chosen at random in {a, b}∗, according to a probability distribution defined via a finite automaton equipped with positive real weights. We determine the local limit distribution of such a quantity under the hypothesis that the transition matrix naturally associated with the finite automaton is primitive. Our probabilistic model extends the Markovian models traditionally used in the literature on pattern statistics. This result is obtained by introducing a notion of symbol-periodicity for irreducible matrices whose entries are polynomials in one variable over an arbitrary positive semiring. This notion and the related results we prove are of interest in their own right, since they extend classical properties of the Perron–Frobenius Theory for non-negative real matrices.

Pattern statistics and Vandermonde matrices

In this paper, we determine some limit distributions of pattern statistics in rational stochastic models. We present a general approach to analyze these statistics in rational models having an arbitrary number of strongly connected components. We explicitly establish the limit distributions in most significant cases; they are characterized by a family of unimodal density functions defined by me...

Pattern Occurrences in Multicomponent Models

In this paper we determine some limit distributions of pattern statistics in rational stochastic models, defined by means of nondeterministic weighted finite automata. Absorbing Markov Chain Models to Determine Optimum Process Target Levels in Production Systems with Rework and Scrapping

In this paper, absorbing Markov chain models are developed to determine the optimum process mean levels for both a single-stage and a serial two-stage production system in which items are inspected for conformity with their specification limits. When the value of the quality characteristic of an item falls below a lower limit, the item is scrapped. If it falls above an upper limit, the item is ...

Wave Characteristics in the Northern Coasts of Persian Gulf

Understanding the wave pattern as a first step in marine studies is very important. The global models as a source of data can be used to simulate local waves. Before applying them, their results should be evaluated. One of the most important global models is the ECMWF model. Based on the wave simulation in the northern coast of the Persian Gulf, it can be said that the ECMWF model results are o...

Monte Carlo Simulation to Compare Markovian and Neural Network Models for Reliability Assessment in Multiple AGV Manufacturing System

We compare two approaches for a Markovian model in flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) using Monte Carlo simulation. The model which is a development of Fazlollahtabar and Saidi-Mehrabad (2013), considers two features of automated flexible manufacturing systems equipped with automated guided vehicle (AGV) namely, the reliability of machines and the reliability of AGVs in a multiple AGV jobsho...
